Preliminary Match Cut Exercise

This has been my favourite part of the media course we had to plan a short film by using jelly babies instead of using a storyboard which made it more interesting and fun. We each got a handful of jelly baby's ( which was very hard not to eat ) we had to make them into characters which would represent the characters in our own film , we also had to make our own props and draw costumes on the jelly babies ( which was quite difficult).

In class we were giving a brief to follow which was very helpful as my group was stuck for ideas. The brief was to we had to use one match cut  one example of shot/reverse shot we were also given a scenario to help us it was ' A character opens a door, walks into a room, sits down opposite another character and they share a few lines of dialogue.

When we got this scenario many idea began to flow into our heads , a date, fight, meeting of some sort, family feuds etc. After a discussion we decided to go with a meeting of two friends in a cafe. They have both got problems that they needed to sort out and they were no longer friends which would make our short film tense.

After we came up with our idea we then had to learn what a match cut was and a shot reverse shot was.

Match Cut
is a cut in film editing between either two different objects, two different spaces, or two different compositions in which an object in the two shots graphically match, often helping to establish a strong continuity of action and linking the two shots metaphorically.

Shot reverse shot
Shot reverse shot: - is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. Since the characters are shown facing in opposite directions, the viewer assumes that they are looking at each other.

We then began to take picture with the colleges camera of the jelly babies to put together our short film by doing this we used the programme ' Final Cut'
We then uploaded our picture to final cut and began to put the picture together , we then added music to make our more interesting and also funny we tried to look for some tense music by going on you tube etc and we finally decided on one and then uploaded it to our blog.
