Giving Feedback

It was also really good to watch other people give their pitches. It was helpful as well as we could see what ideas everyone had come up with and maybe use something they have thought off. It was really good giving feedback as well and helping other people with their films. The ideas were very good that people thought of some of them i thought would be really hard to film and  make realistic but i made sure i made that point as i don't want to see my peers fall down.

Feedback

When we finihsed our pitch we then go to see what the class thought about it , we gotsome good feedback and some good advice on how we could make our film better and what we could change.

We were told to :
  • To make it exciting
  • Use snap shots and close ups
  • Think about sound effects we could use to make it more intresting
  • Think about our title sequence
  • Good actors to make in convincing
This feedback was really helpful as we didnt really think about some of these things such as titles we didnt speak about it atall. Overall they thought it was a good idea and would make a good film if we stick to what we had been told.

Presenting Our Pitch

Today was the day we had to present the pitch to the class. We had about 20 minutes to finish our presentation ( we still didn't finish it ) we finished the anamatic and finished of some slides. We were the first group to present our pitch. We decided to split the slides between us so we all had ago at speaking. This was very nerve racking as I hate speaking in frount of large groups but it will help me in the future as I may have to speak up at work etc. It also good for our confidence. We went through the slide slowly and explained to the class what each slide ment.

Presentation for the pitch...

Here are the slides from our presentation for our pitch:

Feedback!!!

After we presented our pitch, which to me went very well by the way. We had to answer questions about our thriller opening, like what inspired us, why we choose to do this kind of thriller. All in all I would say our pitch went very well, as we received some very good feedback from Bernard and the students in our class.
Here is some of the feedback we was told;-
  •  To make it fast paste and thrilling
  •  Big  and Interesting close ups
  • Snap shots
  • To have good props to make it look realistic
  • Good actors to convince the audience
  • To use good camera shots
  • To make it exciting and interesting
  • Show Don't Tell
I thought by letting the class have the choice to feedback, was a good idea as it gave us a chance to see what we had done wrong and what we needed to improve on before we could begin filming. To me i really enjoyed hearing the feedback as it gave me the chance to think and decide that maybe we shouldnt use some of the things we had decided to use. As in actually fact we only have to make the opening of a thriller movie which has to last two minutes and whilst we was planning our film I dont think we took this into considerartion as we was trying to show to much in the opeing sequence. And now after hearing what the class had to say about our opening I think we are going to change some of the things and just make sure we work on the acting and the use of props so we can make it as suspensful and interesting as possible.

Pitch!!

The day had arrived, we would finally have to present our pitch to the our media techers and to the students in our media class. This was also the day we would find out if we was going to be allowed to begin filming our film. In Bernard's lesson  this week we had to present our Pitch to the whole class, which was really nerve wracking as we hadn't quite finished it and we wasn't sure what people was going to say about it. Before we started pitching our idea to the class Bernard gave us half an hour to finish our pitch, which wasn't actually enough time as we still had to finish our anamatic storyboard. In the end we decided to present what we had completed to the rest of the class. We had a time slot of 15 minutes to present our pitch then we had to be prepared to answer questions about our pitch. To me I thought 15 minutes was quite a long time to present, I thought what are we going to talk about as there wasn't much that we could say. But in actually fact when the time came to it the time flew and we actually went over the 15 minutes, which is quite surprising as we didn't really have that much to talk about.  All in all I would say that our pitch was quite successful as our teacher and the rest of the students in our class liked the idea for our thriller film.

Our Pitch

In class we were told that we had to create a pitch to the class about out film so we can get some feedback and also give advice to other students it will also be a good expereice as we get to see what other groups are filming and what idea that they have.

Our pitch had to consits of the following

1.  The title of our movie
2.  The treatment (brief outline of the film)
3.  What type (subgenre) of the thriller is it? Have any other openings inspired us?

Workshop..

On Tuesday my group decided it would be best if we came to workshop, as it would give us a chance to complete our pitch but also so we could get some help if we needed to. Unfortunatelly Jessica and Amy couldn't come to workshop, so this just left me and Rima to complete the pitch in under an hour. Whilst in workshop we decided we should complete all the unfinished slides, put the powerpoint together and most importantly to draw and make our storyboard in to an animatic. To save us time me and Rima decided we should each take one thing each to complete I decided to take the storyboard, but the problem is I can't draw to save my life but I thought let me try as this is for my coursework. As I started to draw the storyboard I started to come up with all kinds of shots we could use to make our thrilling, I thought we could take a close up shot of the dead girl's hand as it could be seen as vital evidence. Once I had drawn all the shots I could think of, i decided to ask Rima for help as we didn't have enough shots. We both came up with the idea that we would take a wide shot of the two detectives standing near the body of the young girl who has been murdered. Unfortunately we didnt complete our pitch during workshop, which is quite scary as we would be presenting the pitch the next day in the morning.:(

Me and Rima in workshop!!!

Feedback!

After we finished our presentation, we got some positive feedback from Bernard and everyone else.
This is what We Were Told To Make Our Thriller As Good As It Can:
·         To make it fast paste and thrilling
·         Big close up
·         Snap shots
·         To think about the different sound effects such as camera clicks etc
·         To think about how were going to do our titles sequence, because we didn’t really think about that.
·         To have good props to make it look realistic
·         Good actors to convince the audience
·         To use good camera shots
·         To make it exciting and have oomph in it ;)
I thought the feedback really helped, because it made me think about a few things that we really didn’t go into, plus I took a lot of the things that Bernard said into consideration! :D

Us Presenting Our Pitch!

Today was the final day.. Well I don’t mean “final” as in Final! I mean we had to present our pitches! But before we started we had 30 minutes to work on our presentation.. Most of you would probably be thinking that’s a very long time.. Well let me tell you something.. IT REALLY ISNT!
In that 30minutes we done what we can, we made the storyboard into a Animatic, we also finished of some off the slides.. But we were not completely finished! But there was nothing we could do, we run out of time! And on top of that Bernard said we have to present first!
So we all decided to split the slides and take it in turns to talk.. At first I was pretty nervous and a bit all over the place.. But the minute we started presenting.. Everything just kind of fell into place.. It wasn’t as bad as we thought it was going to be. we were told we had 15 minutes to present,, at first we thought 15  minutes is a very long time to present,, and we didnt really have that much to say.. but somehow the time just flew by.. and before we knew it.. we were going over the time.. which was alright as we got most of our presentation done :D All in all i thought our presentation was actually good :)

These Are Some Pictures Of The Other Groups That Presented.. :)

Watching other groups present their pitches was actually very interesting as well as helpful. It was nice hearing other people’s ideas; it was very different from ours. It helped watching them present as well as getting feedback, it made us realise what to do to make a good thrilling opening scene. We also learned how the smallest things can ruin the whole atmosphere of the scene.

Planning our pitch..

In Phil's lesson this week we begun the process of planning our pitch ready to present our idea's to Bernard, Mary and the rest of our Media class. This process was quite nerve wracking, as this ment we was fast approaching the time when we would have to begin fiilming our film.To help us with our pitch Phil gave us a hand out of what our pitch had to include;-
  • The title of your movie
  • The treatment (Brief outline of the film)
  • What type (subgenre) of thriller is it? Have any other openings inspired you?
  • Planned locations and location shots
  • Props, costumes and other mise en scene
  • Full Storyboard / Animatic with titles
  • Preliminary idea's about sound
  • Production Schedule- what you are doing where and when
  • Risk assessment
  • Skills audit to date
  • Institutional detail- which film company would produce your movie and how would that affect PDE
  • Audience detail- who is your target audience and what would appeal to them about your film?
As there are 12 points we all decided we should do 4 points each, as Amy wasn't in we decided we would do her points aswell. The points for our pitch I had to design was;
  1. Props, costumes and other mise en scene
  2. Full storyboard and preferably animatic with titles
  3. Preliminary idea's about sound
  4. Production scedule -what we are filming where and when

Change Of Plan!

Instead of carrying out an investigation in an office, and using flashbacks, we decided to get rid of the flashback idea completely as well as the office. We still have the opening part in Hampstead heath, the new idea is we carry out the investigation in a lab.. To make it more suspenseful and get the audience thinking what happened! I really do hope that it turns out the way we want it to!

Workshop!

We didn’t manage to finish our pitch in lesson, plus one of our group members were absent so we couldn’t really do everything. We all planned to come to workshop to get it done!
Me and Sophie came to the workshop to try and finish it, as Jessica and Amy couldn’t come. We tried our best to do as much as we can, but we didn’t get really far, the pitch took longer than we expected.. Plus we had to draw out are storyboard and take pictures! We were a bit worried that we didn’t finish it, but Bernard said that we would have and extra 20minutes to finish it off at the beginning of the lesson! That was a big sigh of relief!
In the workshop, I put all our slides together, added colour and put pictures in, I also finished off the treatment, and helped Sophie with storyboard!
Tomorrows the big day! I hope we finish our pitch and that its successful.. I’m pretty excited as well as scared at the same time.. Well I guess I have to wait and see what happens! *Fingers Crossed* Hope We Do Well :D

Our Story Board Pictures!

These are some of the pictures that we drew for our storyboard!
i know these pictures aint upto scrath, buh Hey, Were Not Here For Art :P Plus these are only a few of the shots that we may use.. we havent decided anything for sure :D

Our Presentation For Our Picth!

Planning Our Pitch!

We started planning our pitch; we had 12 questions to answer, we decided to split the questions so that we all work on something. I worked on questions 1-4.
These were the questions i worked on:
1.  The title of our movie
2.  The treatment
3.  The subgenre
4.  What locations we were going to film in.

PITCH!

Today we were told by Phil that in Bernard’s lesson we were going to pitch our ideas! This was a very scary and intimidating time for us.. as we had to finalise what we were going to do in our opening sequence!
We were also told that if our pitch isn’t convincing enough then we would not be able to FILM! After hearing that, we all put our heads together and start cracking down on our Presentation.
This is what we were told:
The Pitch Should Contain The Following Information:
1.  The title of our movie
2.  The treatment (brief outline of the film)
3.  What type (subgenre) of the thriller is it? Have any other openings inspired us?
4.  Planned locations and location shots (Include Photos)
5.  Props, costumes and other Mise en scene (photos or bring them along if you already sourced them)
6.  Full storyboard and preferably animatic including the titles
7.  Preliminary ideas about sound
8.  Production Schedule
9.  Risk Assessment
10.           Skills We learnt
11.           Institutional detail
12.           Audience detail
WE WERE TOLD WE ONLY HAVE 15 MINUTES TO PRESENT OUR PITCH!!

Treatment....

When planning our film, we had to write out a treatment which we would follow to help make our film successful. This is what we included in our treatment;-
  • Location
  • What happens in our film
  • Titles
  • Sound
  • Props
  • Influences
  • Photo's of location
Treatment:-
The main idea for our thriller film was that a young girl has been murdered and there is two police investigators played by Jessica and Amy, who are trying to solve the murder of a young aspiring journalist.

Things to consider when making a film...

When planning a film there are many things you need to take into consideration;
  • Lighting
  • Good Location -with space
  • Noise level
  • Can you get really good shots?
  • Can you get interesting angles?
All of these points are points are important in there own way, i mean for instance to me location is the most important thing you need to consider when planning your movie. Location is important because you want a location that is going to wow the audience when they watch your film. Another reason why location is important is because you have to logical and think are you really going to be able to film all your shots at this particular location.

Thriller Planning...

This week in Bernard's lesson we finally started planning for our own thriller film. This was quite a scary and exciting process, as this was where the real hard work started but it  also  where the most creative part of this unit would start. This was a scary process as this was where we had to put all what we have learnt into our thriller film and we would now be working independently in our groups with no supervision. But in a way this was also an exciting process as in our film we finally would get to show everything that we have learnt over the past few weeks.

To help us plan our thriller film Bernard gave us each a A3 piece of paper with seven boxes on the sheet.
The boxes consisted of what we would have to plan to make our film successful;
  • Locations to be used,
  • Opening that have inspired you and why
  • Which thriller Sub Genre will you produce
  • Opening structure to be followed
  • Key Props to be used
  • Intertexual refrences
  • Fonts and font effects to be used

An analysis of a title sequence which inspires me...

After watching a number of title sequences from all the different thriller sub genres, i decided that the one title seqeunce that i really enjoyed watching was 'The Shining.'

'The Shining' is a physcological thriller, based on the novel with the same title by Stephen King. 'The Shining' is about a writer with a with and young son, who accepts a job as a caretaker at an isolated hotel in the moddle of nowhere. After moving into the hotel, due to a terrible winter storm, which leaves the family snowbound. Due to the family being snowbound, the father becomes influenced by by a supernatural presence in the haunted hotel; he descends into madness and attempts to kill his wife and son.

The reason why i liked 'The Shining' title sequence is because it is quite dark and dreary, i mean there is no dialogue only weird and powerful music in the background. I liked the music because it is something which i am completely not used to, as the usual title sequences i watch usually have dialogue and are quite fast. Whereas this title sequence lasted a long time and even though all you can see in the sequnce is a car driving through the mountain, the music makes it very suspensful and quite evil. As just by the music you are expecting something to happen, like a face to appear from nowhere. Another thing i like about the title sequence is the different camera angles which are used, i think a particular camera angle which is effective is the

The thing i didnt like about this title sequence is that to me it was a bit too long and in some ways it became a bit boring to watch. But dont get me wrong the title sequence itself is perfect just that the content is quite plain and vague, not much is going on and it doesnt really tell you what the film is going to be about. Whilst watching this title sequence, i started to think about the kind of things i could inlcude in the title sequnce for my film. I thought from the this sequence we could use the idea of having quite a dark and moody piece of music for the soudtrack.  I particular liked the way the writing appeared on the screen at a steady pace it wasnt all to cluttered. I thought this was a good  idea as it gave you a chance to see who produced and directed the movie without missing any of the movie.

Treatment!

We had to write a treatment.. It’s basically what I’ve discussed in our thriller planning.. But its like a summary!
Il tell you what a “Treatment” contains:
  • 1.  Location
  • 2.  Storyline
  • 3.  Sound
  • 4.  Titles
  • 5.  Props
  • 6.  Influences

This Is Our Treatment:

The main idea is that a young girl has been murdered and there is a police investigation going on. The girl was a journalist and she had some evidence to do with a terrorism attack, she was murdered before she could hand over the evidence. Were going to carry out the investigation in a lab!

Treatment

We started planning our film finally :) and we had to write a treatment of what our film is about and what it will include.

We decided to film in a field at Hampsted Heath and also film in a staffroom and college to recreate to setting of a office at a police station. In our film a young girl has been murdered and been found in a field it is up to the police ( me and Jessica _ to investigate into why and how this has happened to this girl and see if we can trace her last moments. The props we will be using are costumes ( suits , trousers, glasses, black shoes, notepads, police badges, fake blood, white sheet and more if we can think of some. Our influences are the opening of the stepfather as we want to have flashbacks in our film and we also looked at The Bill for ideas as we will be filming a crime thriller and also Silent Witness. The sound we talked about if a suspense soundtrack maybe all the way through we looked at The Bill soundtrack and we would like something similar to that also we need a gunshot noise and we are also using dialogue.

To be contiuned.
